International Gems and Jewellery Fair from May 17

Kathmandu, May 15 .An international-level Gems and Jewellery Fair is taking place for the first time in Nepal with the participation of the government.

The event to be organised by the Department of Mines and Geology under the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies, will be supported by the Federation of Nepal Gold Silver Gem and Jewellery Associations.

The event has been scheduled for May 17-19 on the premises of the office of Department at Lainchaur. It will exhibit items made of precious metals and stones. As the Department said precious gems are found along the mountain range and hills spreading from Taplejung (east) to Darchula (west) and the same information will be disseminated through the event.

The aim of the fair is to spread information about originality, diversity and specialty of domestic gems and stones and related products at an international-level; and seek a better market for them by focusing on the export, Department’s joint-secretary Jayaraj Ghimire said.

The fair will showcase a total of 70 stalls from India, China, Thailand, Japan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal. Exhibitions on several technologies relating to minerals processing are also the parts of the fair.
