Menuri Sachintha awarded as the First Glocal Teen Hero, Sri Lanka, 2020.

Kathmandu, September 26. Menuri Sachintha has been awarded with the title of Glocal Teen Hero – Sri Lanka, 2020. In collaboration with CYN Sri Lanka, the first ever GTH – Sri Lanka was organized virtually.

Ms. Menuri Sachintha Kodikara is 16 years old activist; awarded with the high international award of appreciation ‘Volunteer Service Leader’ by Sri Lanka United Nations Friendship Organization. She has also been selected for the 1st International SDG action camp. She is an Asian and Commonwealth bronze medalist, West Asia champion, National member of World’s first SDG Children;s Parliament, the youngest Women FIDE Master in Sri Lanka. Ms. Menuri also has a record of 6 High International Awards of Appreciation for working towards SDGs. Currently, She is working for the SDGCPSL (Sustainable Development Goals Children’s Parliament of Sri Lanka) with  future short term and long term projects which helps with Goal 1 and Goal 4.

Ms. Menuri Sachintha was selected from among top 6 finalists in the competition; Mr. Parameswaran Praveenan (Virtual Teacher), Ms. Fazah Firnas (Innovator), Ms. Menuri Sachintha (Activist), Mr. Nelitha Priyawansha (Inventor), Mr. Manith Dulnim (Innovator), Mr. Shazaan Careem (Robot Maker).

Glocal Teen Hero is the platform for teenagers to identify and honor the outstanding teenagers whose creativity, commitment, experience and strong leadership has helped them achieve success in an increasingly challenging environment. This award recognize and honor the exceptional teen whose work is sustainable and who can think out of the box addressing the issues and creating the impact in the society. Fostering a collaborative community among recipients and strengthening national recognition of today’s young leaders is a primary goal of the Glocal Teen Hero Award.

With the aim to initiate Glocal Teen Hero in all over South Asia, Glocal has moved this opportunity to Sri Lankan Teenagers for their encouragement and development. It is a fully funded program exclusively for Sri Lankan Teenagers. This is the first ever program organized in Sri Lanka after India.

It also acts as a great platform for teenagers to network with delegates from various industries in Sri Lanka. It is an opportunity of life time, not only to the winner, but all the applicants, finalists and other teenagers to develop themselves through networking, collaboration and pooling of opportunities.

Out of a total of 113 applications for Glocal Teen Hero, the selection was based on their resume, the evidence and an essay on their accomplishment. These six teens also went through a two days online capacity building workshops, trainings and recreation.
