Kathmandu, Dec 20 . Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) National Employees Union has launched the ‘Smooth Service, Clean NEA’ national campaign.

The Union is the authorized trade union close to the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP). Union’s coordinator Rameshwoar Poudel said this campaign was directed to making the NEA the best public utility corporation among the public corporations.

The campaign was launched amidst a programme today attended by Minister for Energy, Water Resoources and Irrigation Barsha Man Pun; Minister for Forest and Environment Shakti Bahadur Basnet and NEA Executive Director Kulman Ghising and high-level management officials of the NEA.

“We have started this campaign with the thinking that trade unions should cooperate with the management to fulfill the national goal by paying attention to the interests of the institution as well. The employees should also take initiatives to increase the consumption of available power,” Poudel said.

According to him, the campaign is for making the best and competitive organization. Union’s joint coordinator Khagendra Shahi said they have launched the campaign to extend cooperation to the management since it was necessary for the trade unions to pay attention to institutional reform and good governance as well rather than only making demands with the management.

Minister Pun on the occasion expressed the belief that the campaign initiated by the trade union with the aim of extending additional support to the management would produce meaningful results. He added that it was an important initiation.

The Minister stressed that every employee should make sincere efforts to increase the efficiency and quality of service of the NEA to make it one of the best corporations in the country.

Minister Basnet said the Ministry of Forest and Environment would extend the support needed for promoting greenery and clean environment within the NEA premises.
The NEA is planning to start a tree plantation campaign at its offices. As part of this campaign, fruit trees and flowers and other plants would be planted.

NEA Executive Director Ghising appreciated the authorized trade union for its initiative for supporting the organization’s campaign of increasing the electricity consumption.
