Nepal-UAE JWC Meet from November 3

Kathmandu, Nov 1 . The very first meeting of the labour-related Joint Working Committee (JWC) comprising representatives of Nepal and the United Arab Emirates has been scheduled to take place in Kathmandu on November 3-4. It is expected to pave the way for the enforcement of bilateral Memorandum of Understanding on labour.

According to the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, the meeting will finalise issues concerning the effective enforcement of the Understanding and the fixation of item cost in regard with the recruitment of workers, employment and their return among others.

The meeting would work out on the technical issues required to implement the MoU, said Ministry’s Joint Secretary Dr Ram Prasad Ghimire. “The meeting will focus on the effective implementation of the MoU.”

Dr Ghimire is leading the six-member Nepali delegation to the meeting while the UAE delegation will be led by Director of International Relations Division, UAE’s Human Resource Ministry, Abdullah Al Nuaimi.

The UAE delegation is arriving here tomorrow.   Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Gokarna Bista who had reached the UAE to participate in the Abu Dhabi Dialogue fifth ministerial level meeting in the second week of October met with UAE’s Human Resources and Emiratisation Minister Nasser bin Thani Juma Al Hamli and agreed on summoning the meeting in the first week of November.

Once the meeting finalized the technical issues, Nepali workers in the UAE will be entitled remuneration and facilities as per the new provision.

Nepal and the UAE have signed the new Lobour MoU on June 14 to revise the labour provisions in line with post-2007 changes in the basic tenets and principles in the labor migration.

The UAE is the fourth major destination country for Nepali workers. Annually, over 50,000 Nepali workers enter the labour market in the UAE.
