Kathmandu, April 3. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has urged the cooperatives institutions to devote to augmenting productions.
Objective and spirit of cooperative is not met with the mobilization of cooperative capital in the urban area, PM Oli reminded, suggesting that the cooperatives could set up robust link with grassroots people and increase agricultural productions, which help boost economic activities.
At a programme organized here on the occasion of 62nd year of the establishment of first cooperative in Nepal on Tuesday, PM Oli strongly urged those involved in cooperatives and agriculture not to promote the use of pesticides in the name of running cooperatives.
The first cooperative was established in 2013 BS in Nepal. Currently, there are 34,512 cooperatives across the country. Among these, 40 percent are mobilizing loan and making saving. They do not have direct involvement in production.
On the occasion, PM Oli underscored the need of checking haphazard plotting of land but instead encourage organic farming and do marketing accordingly. By stopping the random plotting of land, collective farming needs to be encouraged, he added.
PM Oli further said production could be given priority as per the PM agriculture modernization project. The global movement of cooperatives was begun in 1844. There are 3 million cooperatives running across the world, having 1.20 billion members.
On the occasion, PM Oli presented awards to various people making contribution to society through cooperatives. Similarly, Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Padma Aryal, said merger of cooperatives was essential because many cooperatives have not gone out of the capital city.
Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Bhanubhakta Dhakal, said the government would make known the federalism to people. More than 200 laws including those to implement fundamental rights were made by the government, he shared.
