Water ATM comes into operation in Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City
Kathmandu, March 5 . Now drinking water could be dispensed from a machine named Water ATM machine as in dispensing money from ATM machine of bank.
The Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City has been put for use the Water ATM machine at its premises where consumers could pay a certain amount and enjoy safe drinking water from the machine.
Minister for Water Supply Beena Magar inaugurated this latest facility installed at the active initiative of the Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL).
On the occasion, Minister Magar expressed her confidence that the Water ATM facility would be useful in quenching the thirsts of the consumers and directed the KUKL to pay attention to the quality of the water to be dispensed by such machines.
According to KUKL Executive Director Dr Sanjeev Bikram Rana, the water facility was first of its kind in Nepal. Plans are afoot to install such facility in 20 other places in the Kathmandu Valley.
The facility has been given the Nepali name ‘Padhero’. The water is dispensed in two category-Rs 2 for 200 ml water, and Rs 10 for 1 litre at a time.
A coin of Rs 2 can be inserted into this multi coin and smart card operated filtration system and ordered for water, even a separate ATM card can be made and used.
Padhero was introduced to Nepal in collaboration of Suping International. A trilateral agreement was made among the KUKL, Kathmandu Metropolitan City and Suping International.
