KATHMANDU, MARCH 3: An agreement has been reached between the government and the Central Dairy Cooperatives Association, culminating in a five-point accord following discussions held yesterday evening.
According to President of the Central Dairy Cooperatives Association, Amar Bahadur Kunwar, the five-point agreement stipulates that every industrialist must settle dues owed to dairy farmers by April 3. Additionally, it has been agreed that the industry should procure milk without reducing the quantity purchased from cooperatives, thereby averting any disruptions in milk procurement.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development will coordinate the export of milk and dairy products by incorporating it into the policies and programs of the upcoming financial year. The agreement also includes a commitment to continue the insurance program provided by the government to livestock farmers. Lastly, the government will take initiatives to address the demands of the Central Dairy Cooperatives Association.
The discussions were attended by Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Dr. Revatiraman Paudel, and President of the Central Dairy Cooperatives Association, Mr. Kunwar.
It is worth noting that the Association had been staging protests since February 20, urging for the release of pending milk payments. President Kunwar announced that with the agreement in place, all protest activities have been suspended.
