Construction of Tamor-Mewa Hydel Project begins

MAY 24: The construction of the Tamor-Mewa Hydropower Project with a capacity of 128 megawatts has started. The project promoted by Spark Hydroelectric Company Limited is expected to be completed in four years.
Constituent Assembly Member Sanchapal Maden and the company’s chairman Bhanendra Kumar Limbu laid the foundation stone of the project yesterday.

The project site is located in Aathrai Tribeni Rural Municipality and Phungling Municipality in Taplejung district.

On the occasion, the Mayor of Phungling Municipality, Amir Maden, said the development of the project would contribute to the development endeavours of the district.

“Development of the electricity project in the district is expected to pave the way for economic prosperity. The projects also provide shares to the local residents,” he added.
Mayor Maden urged the promoters to accord priority to the locals in employment and ensure corporate social responsibility at the project site.
The total cost of the project is estimated to be Rs 24.32 billion.
