Kathmandu, May 8. The government is set to mark the year from 2075 to 2085 BS as the ‘Decade of Energy and Hydropower’ so as to realize the dream of ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepalis’.
The concept of ‘energy decade’ has been taken ahead to expedite energy production in a short-term, medium-term and long-term strategic manner.
Making public a white paper titled “Current Status and Future Course of Energy, Hydropower and Irrigation Sector”, Minister Barsha Man Pun shared that the government has started the planned-wise campaign for the strategic development of energy sector.
The white paper unveiled by Minister Pun includes 81 points with the commitment to complete the under-construction projects in the stipulated time, increase electricity supply and emphasize overall development of hydropower through integrated hydro policy.
The government has set the target to generate 5,000 MW electricity within coming five years and connect it to the national grid. Likewise, the white paper has come up with the policy to make every Nepali citizen a share holder of hydropower projects.
The white paper states that a target would be set to complete the construction of Galchhi-Rasuwagadhi-Kerung transmission line connecting Nepal and China within coming five years.
