Lower House continues discussions over Appropriation Bill

Kathmandu, June 25. Today’s session of the House of Representatives, the Lower House in the Federal Parliament, continued discussions over the Appropriation Bill- 2075 BS.
The meeting held discussions about various headings relating to the three ministers-Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation; Foreign Affairs; and Home.

Taking part in the deliberations, lawmaker Dev Prasad Timilsina of the Nepali Congress said development in any particular area could not contribute to bring nationwide prosperity. He accused of the prejudices in the allocation of budget to Province 2, drawing the government attention to addressing the issues of irrigation and of inundation in the Tarai.

Likewise, Pushpa Kumari Kayastha of Nepal Workers and Peasants’ Party (NWPP), demanded the operation of night markets in the central capital Kathmandu and promotion of footpath business.

Padmanarayan Chaudhary of the Nepali Congress said energy crisis issue in Nepal, despite its richness in natural energy resources was due to lack of proper utilisation of such resources. He was of the view of promoting agriculture sector through the guarantee of a good irrigation facility and making the country self-sufficient on agro productions.
Nawaraj Silwal of Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) spoke of the need of restructuring the security sector.

NWPP’s Nawaraj Rawat sought the timely construction of the Kohalpur-Surkeht Transmission Line with the allocation of sufficient budget. NWPP’s Mohan Baniya demanded the government invalidate hydropower companies registered by mafias, underlining the need of establishing big hydropower projects in all seven provinces. Rural area electrification programme should be intensified.

Sitaram Mahato of Nepali Congress demanded the allocation of budget required for timely completing the Postal Highway in Tarai. The meeting is underway. —
