Iron and steel should be produced in Nepal: VP
Kathmandu, April 8 . Vice-president Nanda Bahadur Pun has said that iron and steel should be produced in Nepal, so as to become self-reliant in iron and steel products. This will also help minimize the trade deficit.
Inaugurating the 25th annual general meeting of Grill and Steel Entrepreneurs Federation here today, he said exploration of metal and copper mines needs to be carried out to exploit the huge potential for them in the country. He also emphasized not to delay in building a self-dependent economy through the development of tourism, processing of herbs and exploration of minerals.
The Vice-president also shared that the government was working on legal and policy reforms in order to promote an investment-friendly environment in the grill and steel sector.
According to information shared at the programme, the grill and steel sector accounts for financial transaction worth more than 45 billion annually, while providing employment to around 160,000 people.
