15000 MG electricity in 10 years: Minister Pun
Kathmandu, Dec 15. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Barsha Man Pun has asserted that his Ministry was moving ahead with the target to generate 15,000 Mega Watt electricity within 10 years.
At a performance agreement ceremony with the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Hetauda Regional office and its relevant Distribution Centres, Minister Pun underscored reforms in the transmission and distribution system.
“At a time when complaints of lack of transformers were rife and delayed distribution of the electricity meter, the NEA should render its services keeping in mind the problems facing the service-seekers,” said Pun, urging the NEA to make itself competitive and capable in all sectors in terms of economic, providing services and operation .
Stating that public trust to NEA should be increased, he shared that the Master Plan on Transmission line was unveiled after he assumed the office.
The Minister also vowed that transmission line would be constructed on the basis of priority rather than on serving vested interests and instructed to make all the NEA offices service-seekers friendly.
Minister Pun said that the government was capable of providing sufficient electricity throughout the country within five years and urged one and all to work in tandem with the NEA to ensure electricity’s access in all parts of the country. He also informed that the meeting of NRA Board of Directors had already prepared a taskforce to take NEA as per the federal-set up.
On the occasion, Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Dr Sanjay Sharma directed the NEA to streamline the distribution system. He viewed that the NEA could be economically strong if the electricity leakages were controlled. RSS
