Nepal an attractive and secure destination for investment, says President
Qatar, Oct 31 .President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said that favourable labour relations, easy availability of economically viable and youth manpower, internal market of nearly 30 million population and neighbouring big markets and diverse legal and institutional provisions have made Nepal an attractive and secure destination for investment.
Addressing the Nepal-Qatar Business Forum in Doha today, President Bhandari urged Qatari investors to take maximum benefits by making investment with full confidence in the various sectors of Nepali economy such as tourism, energy, agriculture, infrastructure and manufacturing industries.
“I take the opportunity to underline that the investment you make in Nepal will give you high return and the Government of Nepal will guarantee the repatriation of the return from your investment in our country,” she said.
President Bhandari arrived here Monday on a four-day official visit at the friendly invitation of Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Calling upon all the businesspersons and investors from Qatar to come to Nepal and invest, the President shared that there are examples of good return from the investment made in Nepal by multinational companies. Return from investment in tourism-related infrastructures is guaranteed.
Citing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to promote partnerships between the two countries in sector of agriculture, livestock farming and meat production earlier today, President Bhandari said Qatari businesspersons could make investment in organic farming in Nepal and export its products to Qatar for consumption or supply them easily to the world market.
Due to the diversity in Nepal’s topography, organic farming, livestock farming and meat production have good prospects for export. There is also a huge potential of exporting clean drinking water from the Himalayas of Nepal, she added.
President Bhandari said political and economic relations between Nepal and Qatar have grown from strength to strength during the forty years of diplomatic ties between the two countries, which has been expanding not only on labour front but also on other fronts of economic diplomacy such as trade, investment, technology and tourism.
Qatar continues to remain an attractive labour destination for Nepali workers, with a big Nepali community engaged in various occupations, professions, businesses and trade in the country. “Therefore, I would like to appeal to all the members of Nepali and Qatari business communities present here to work for mutual interests of both countries by utilizing this business connection”, the President said.
Also addressing the programme, Chief Executive Officer of Investment Board of Nepal Maha Prasad Adhikari, President of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Ex-president of Confederation of Nepalese Industries Hari Sharma appealed to industrialists and businesspersons in Qatar to invest in Nepal.
