Writ filed demanding release gangster Basnet scrapped

Kathmandu, Oct 8 . The Supreme Court has scrapped a habeas corpus writ filed demanding release of gangster Samirman Basnet.
Today’s division bench of Judges—Sharada Prasad Ghimire and Ishwor Khatiwada handed down an order to that end.
A single bench of Judge Deepak Raj Joshi on October 3 had issued an order to present Basnet before the SC within three days after getting notice of the same. The writ was scrapped after Basnet was presented at the SC as per the order.
Basnet was sent to Mustang Jail from Lalitpur-based Nakhkhu Jail. Sudhirman Singh Basnet had filed a habeas corpus writ at SC, saying Basnet was kept illegally in the custody.
Basnet has been arrested on the charge of murdering President of Federation of Contractors’ Association of Nepal, Sharad Gauchan. Gauchan was shot dead at Shantinagar in Kathmandu on October 7, 2017.
