CIAA files corruption case against 12 including Pappu Construction Chair
Kathmandu, Oct 5 . The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Friday filed a corruption case at the Special Court against 12 persons, including Pappu Construction company chair, involved in the irregularities while constructing the bridge over the Babai River at Jabdighat of Bardiya district.
The CIAA stated that the corruption and irregularities were suspected from the very beginning of the construction of the bridge. According to CIAA Assistant Spokesperson Madan Koirala, the CIAA claimed Rs 190.32 million from then Papu Construction Chair Harinarayan Prasad Saha Rauniyar.
Equal amount has been claimed from construction Chair Sumit Rauniyar. Similarly, Rs 141,250 has been claimed from Everest Engineering Consultancy’s Proprietor, Krishna Dev Yadav.
Those in the list of the charge sheet are Bhanu Joshi, Manoj Shrestha and Rajesh Kumar Yadav. They were the former chiefs of Division Road Office, Nepalgunj.
Officiating design chief of the same office Nawaraj KC, and engineers Prem Prasad Chuwai, Hari Bahadur Khadka and Dipendra Bahadur Bista have also been filed the case.
The concerned office had received the complaints that nonstandard materials were used for the construction of the bridge. It was tilted and crumbled before it came into operation.
The Division Road Office, Nepalgunj and the Pappu Construction had signed the contract on 6 July 2011. Various technical lapses were found in course of the inspection, added the CIAA.
