Public vehicles with more than 18 seats banned on BP Highway
Sindhuli, May 19 . Public vehicles having more than 18 seats have been prohibited for operation along the BP Highway. Decision to this end was taken, bearing in mind road safety and safe travel.
According to the District Police Office, Sindhuli’s Superintendent of Police, Rameshwor Prasad Yadav, public vehicles with more than 2,000 mm wheelbase and 18 seats have been banned from plying on the highway.
Permission from the Transport Office is required if any vehicle more than 18 seats needs to be operated here. Likewise, containers weighing more than 10 tons are also banned on the highway also known as the Banepa Bardibas Highway.
Vehicles that are used to transport heavy equipments and construction materials need to acquire permission from the ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport for the operation on the highway.
He said they are committed to enforcing the decisions taken by the Department of Transport Management in response to an increasing number of road accidents resulted in from the overflow of vehicles more than the capacity of highway. We wish to develop the highway as a safe zone for travel, SP Yadav added. The highway is not suitable for the operation of heavy and large vehicles.
Sindhuli’s Chief District Officer Gyan Prasad Dhakal said the District Administration Offices in Kavrepalanchowk, Dolakha, Ramechhap, Udyapyr and Mahottari districts have been urged to not pass vehicles failing to meet the above mentioned criteria.
The secretary-level meeting of the Nepal Government on 18th September, 2015 decided not to allow public vehicles except 18-seaters play on the highway. But prior to this, both light and heavy vehicles were freely passing through the highway, drawing public concerns for road safety.
