Cabinet decision: Koirala to be honoured with state funeral, public holiday on Wednesday
Kathmandu February 9- The government has expressed its shock over the demise of former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala and offered its heartfelt condolence on his death. The government has decided to honour Koirala with state funeral.
An emergency Cabinet meeting on Tuesday wished for the peace of departed soul, recalling his role in democratic movement of the country. “Nepal government will always remember the contribution of Koirala in the promulgation of new constitution in Nepal’s constitution,” stated a press statement issued by PM’s office after the Cabinet meeting.
The government also announced a public holiday on Wednesday (February 10) and fly the national flags at half-mast in government offices across the country and Nepali missions abroad for three days (Feb 10- 12) to mourn Koirala’s demise.
Likewise, the government has decided not to organise any formal programmes for the next three days and condolence books will be opened for Koiral at Nepali embassies in foreign countries on Feb 12-13.
“Nepal government believes that assimilation of Koirala’s exemplary sides such as dedication and sacrifice during his life-long struggle in one’s life would be a true tribute to him,” read the statement.
The government also expressed its sympathies with the bereaved families, relatives and well-wishers and Nepali Congress party.
