Experts emphasizes energy efficiency

Kathmandu February 8- Experts and policy makers have stressed that Demand Side Management, which includes energy efficiency, should be considered as an integral part of overall energy planning. Implementation of energy efficiency measures would be helpful to reduce the growing gaps between supply and demand to some extent, according to them.

Presenting a thematic paper during the ‘Energy Auditing Training Programme’ for electrical engineers organised by Energy Efficiency Centre of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (EEC- FNCCI) under the support of Nepal Energy Efficiency Programme (NEEP), Lekha Nath Bagale, undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy said that the country has been facing multiple challenges in promoting energy efficiency due to lack of proper policies and institutional structure as well as awareness and information.

Uttam Kunwar, head of department, Energy and Environment Division at FNCCI, opined that energy efficiency can be an additional source of energy. “If we are able to apply energy efficiency measures like leakage control, power efficient machineries in industries, and power efficient bulbs and other electric home appliances we can save more power,” he said.
