Suspended APF chief Kosh Raj Onta granted bail

Kathmandu December 22- Suspended Armed Police Force (APF) Chief Kosh Raj Onta, who was implicated in misappropriation of funds during the supply of goods for paramilitary force units across the country, has been released on Rs 100 million bail on Monday.

The CIAA had sought the bail amount from Onta after interrogation had to be resumed on Tuesday.

As the interrogation failed to come to a conclusion on Monday, Onta had walked out of the CIAA premises to collect his bail amount. “I will find and bring the amount within an hour from anywhere,” said a CIAA official quoting Onta. Onta then furnished a bank-bond.

Onta has been found guilty of pocketing over Rs 70 million in collusion with junior officers and the supplier by producing fake bills without supplying goods. CIAA said a large amount of money was misappropriated after the APF head signed a contract with Sada Jyoti Suppliers following a tender process. The CIAA has already instructed the authorities to freeze his bank accounts. The government last Friday decided to sack Onta from the top post of APF based on the CIAA recommendation that he was found involved in misappropriation of millions during the purchase and supply of goods for APF units.
