Cabinet forms high-level panel for infrastructure development

Kathmandu December 10– The Council of Ministers on Thursday formed a four-member high-level committee including Deputy Prime Minister with Physical Infrastructure and Transport portfolio Bijay Kumar Gachhadar, Deputy Prime Minister with Energy portfolio Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel, and Minister for Information and Communications Sherdhan Rai for the development of physical infrastructure.
Considering Nepal’s immediate, mid-term and long-term needs, the panel has been mandated to identify, select and prioritise new infrastructure development projects, make recommendations to the government for their development, and identify and arrange financial resources for the new and ongoing projects.
The Cabinet sanctioned a two-year immediate reform programme for economic development, prosperity and good governance in the country, according to Minister Sherdhan Rai, who is also the government spokesperson.
Likewise, the Cabinet decided to accept grant assistance provided by Japan for the post-earthquake reconstruction and rehabilitation, and by China for the road development project along the Araniko Highway.
