Nepal-Qatar sign MoU to protect rights of Nepalese workers
Kathmandu November 17- The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the National Human Rights Committee Qatar have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the protection of Nepali migrant workers in Qatar.
Presently, the NHRC delegation headed by its Chair Anup Raj Sharma is in Qatar in a bid to safeguard the rights of Nepali migrant workers there.
The delegation comprising Commission Officers Kamal Thapa Chhetri and Kalpana Jha reached there on November 14.
NHRC Chair Sharma and NHRC Qatar Chair Dr Ali bin Al Marri signed the memorandum of understanding regarding the exchange of mutual assistance for the protection of the rights of Nepali migrant workers on behalf of their respective sides, according to NHRC Acting Secretary Bed Prasad Bhattarai.
The tenure of the memorandum of understanding is four years and can be renewed through mutual consent.
Meanwhile, the Nepali human rights delegation held meetings and discussions with Qatar-based Nepali representatives associated with different professional and trade organisations regarding the status of Nepali migrant workers there on the sidelines of the visit.
