Birgunj-Raxaul border point reopens after 40 days

Kathmandu November 2- The Birgunj-Raxaul border point opened after 40 days from Monday morning after police vacated the agitating protestors from their sit-in spot in Miteri Bridge. Police began vacating the border point from 4 am this morning. The protestors initially hurled stones towards police but were eventually chased away.
Some 170 freight trucks have entered into India from Nepal after the border was opened this morning. However, no trucks have entered into Nepal from the Indian side. Birgunj Customs official told that the Indian customs opens only at 8 or 9 in the morning. Only then it will be known if the Indian side has opened the border or not, the official said. Raxaul customs superintendent Arun Kumar Rajat said that the trucks stranded on Indian side will be sent to Nepal since the border was cleared since this morning. “There is no point in stopping the freight trucks and tankers as the border has cleared. The trucks, tankers and LPG bullets will be sent to Nepal,” he said. Source: TKP
