NRNA assembly ends with 10-pt declaration
Kathmandu Oct 18- The 7th Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) International General Assembly and Global Conference 2015 concluded on Saturday, issuing a 10-point declaration focusing on devising an integrated development plan with the government and expediting the post-quake reconstruction drive.
The NRNA, in its declaration paper, has stated it will utilize the technical and financial resources for the development of the country as well as for taking ahead the reconstruction process. This year, the association’s global conference was held with the motto — “NRNA: A True Partner to Rebuilding Nepal”.
The two-day conference also decided to construct 1,000 homes for earthquake survivors in coordination with the government. “The concerned ministries will lead the post reconstruction process. The NRNA will support the government with needful technology and financial resources,” the declaration reads. The conference has also appealed to the Nepali diasporas to invest in hydroelectricity, tourism, health, education and communication as Nepal has adopted a new constitution giving a logical end to the peace process. “We also urge the NRNs to make an investment in the productive sector for job creation,” the declaration reads.
The NRNA General Assembly welcomed the provision in the new constitution that allows the NRNs communities to hold dual citizenship. As per the new constitution, NRN citizenship may be provided to people of Nepali origin who have acquired foreign citizenship and reside in countries other than SAARC, with the provision exercising economic, social and cultural rights as provided by the law.
Acknowledging the contribution of remittance to Nepal’s economy, the NRNA also decided to find out the issues and challenges of Nepali people working in Middle-East, Asia and African continent and initiating concrete steps to mitigate it. Around 1,500 NRNs from across the globe converged here for the event. Source: TKP
