Melumchi Water Supply Project stalled due to shortage of fuel

Kathmandu October 16- Melumchi  water supply development Committee informed that due to shortage of fuel, work of the most hyped Melumchi Water Supply Project in Sundarijal has been stalled. Melumchi Water Supply Project is aimed to fulfill the demand of drinking water for Kathmanduties by bringing processed drinking water of Melumchi River in Sindhupalchok to Kathmandu through processing centre in Sundarijal.

The work has been obstructed due to shortage of diesel. According to Executive Director of the project,  Ghanashyam Bhattarai, 200 thousand liters of Diesel per month is required to persist the construction work in the project. Construction of underground tunnel was stopped from October 1, while Melumchi water treatment center's work has also stopped from Thursday due to the shortage of fuel.

Senior engineer Rajendra Prasad Pant informed that 170 million litres of water is brought daily from Melumchi River to water processing centre located at Gokarneshwor municipality-3 Mahankal as the first phase of project to process 80 million litres of water.

The project is being constructed by Obag and Prativa industries JV and estimated to end till mid march.
