Twin Otter joins Tara Air’s fleet

Kathmandu, July-16 Tara Air has added a brand new Viking DHC6-400 Twin Otter aircraft to its fleet. The short take-off and landing (STOL) plane boasts cutting edge avionics technology with an integrated full glass cockpit that features an enhanced ground proximity warning system, traffic collision avoidance system and full colour weather radar.
The carrier said that the new Twin Otter would serve remote STOL airfields such as Lukla, Phaplu, Jomsom, Dolpa and Simikot. The new aircraft will play a vital role in transporting foreign trekkers, local people and food to remote regions, it added.
Tara Air intends to gradually replace its entire fleet with the new Viking series aircraft.
The company is scheduled to take delivery of its second Viking 400 aircraft in September this year.
Established in 1998, Tara Air currently operates a fleet of seven STOL aircraft, namely five Twin Otters and two Dorniers.
The de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter is a Canadian 18-passenger utility aircraft developed by de Havilland Canada and currently produced by Viking Air. Tara Air is a subsidiary of Yeti Airlines.
