General Convention to mark party organization systematic

Kathmandu, March 30 – General Secretary of the CPN (UML), Ishwor Pokhrel, has said that his party´s ninth general convention will conclude with a consensus and unity.
At the closed session of the ongoing sixth general convention of the General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT), today, Pokhrel said that extensive discussions would be held in the general convention to make the party´s organisation systematic and stressed that new leadership should be selected with a consensus and on the basis of qualification and capacity.
He said, "along with competition consensus is also the democratic basis."
The UML General Secretary assured that the party would take initiative as far as possible to ensure 10 per cent rights of workers in the new democratic constitution to be promulgated within a year.
Leader Pokhrel also admired the works carried out by GEFONT, a sister organisation of the CPN (UML), in promoting workers´ rights.
The sixth general convention of GEFONT is underway in Kathmandu from March 28-31 under the slogan, "Transformation: Through Development of Labour Power."
Six hundred and five people including 439 Nepalis and foreign representatives and 166 observers are participating in the general convention.
Representatives from different countries including USA, Africa, China and Japan, among others are participating in the convention.
