Govt urges private schools not to hike fees

Kathmandu, March 11 -The government has urged the private schools not to increase the tuition fees in the new academic session without justifying the need for the increment.

It has said although the private schools are planning to increase the tuition fees by 20 to 25 per cent from the new session, any increment made without proving the necessity would not be acceptable to the government.

Kathmandu District Education Officer and District School Fees Fixation Committee Coordinator Baikuntha Aryal said the committee has already directed the private schools to continue with the existing tuition fees in the new academic session also and not to increase the fees arbitrarily.

It may be noted that the new working committee of Private and Boarding Schools Organization of Nepal (PABSON) announced at a press meet on Monday that private schools had no alternative to an increment in tuition fees.

The 12th general convention of PABSON concluded recently demanded the government scrap the provision of fixation of tuition fees on the basis of classification of school.

DEO Aryal urged the private schools to abide by the Supreme Court verdict, urging to give clarification if they need to increase the fees.

PABSON Chairman Laxya Bahadur KC said they have demanded the government to allow the school management committees themselves to fix tuition fees on the basis of school physical infrastructures and education facilities to students.
