UCPN (M) leader Gharti elected CA vice-chair

Kathmandu, Feb 26 – UCPN (Maoist) leader and lawmaker Onsari Gharti has been elected as Constituent Assembly vice-chairperson on Wednesday.
Leader Gharti has been elected with 484 of the total 489 votes cast in the Constitution Assembly meeting today.
Elected from Rolpa-2 to the Constituent Assembly, leader Gharti had been proposed by UCPN (Maoist) leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara and seconded by Nepali Congress leader Ananda Prasad Dungana and CPN-UML leader Bhim Acharya.
Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWPP) leader Anuradha Thapa had also filed her candidacy for the same post. NWPP lawmakers Prem Suwal had proposed Thapa’s name while Dilli Prasad Kafle seconded it.
Gharti´s election for the post of vice-chair was a mere formality as the two largest parties – NC and UML – had already extended their support for the UCPN (Maoist) candidate.
The largest parties NC and CPN-UML had decided to support the UCPN (Maoist) candidate in the election of the vice-chair, saying that it would help maintain power balance in the CA.
Onsari Gharti, wife of a Maoist leader and former finance minister Barsha Man Pun, has already served as minister for youth and sports.
