UCPN (Maoist) not to contest CA chair post
Kathmandu, Feb. 18: The Unified CPN (Maoist) is not giving candidacy to the post of the Constituent Assembly (CA) chair.
A meeting of the party's central office held today at Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal's residence at Lazimpat took the decision not to file candidacy for the post on the party's behalf.
Party leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha said the meeting decided not to file candidacy on behalf the party but the topic of who it will support would be decided based on the discussions with other political parties.
The CPN (UML) has decided to give the candidacy of Subas Nembang, who is also the formed CA chairman, with the support of the Nepali Congress and has requested the parties to vote him based on his experience.
With UCPN (Maoist)'s this decision, the prospect of Nembang getting unanimously elected to the high post has increased. Although the UCPN (Maoist) has come up with this decision regarding the CA chair post, it has not made any decision regarding the post of CA vice-chair as of now.
Shrestha said the party would hold discussions with the parties that voted against in the prime minister's election before this regarding further decision on this topic. The discussions will be held at the CA Building, Naya Baneshwar.
Election to the post of CA chair is taking place on the basis of majority votes today in the CA after no candidacy was filed Monday for the same as the political parties could not agree on a common candidate.
Although the election for the post of CA chair is being done based on majority votes, the chances of Nembang getting elected unanimously have increased as no other candidacies except his have been filed so far.
As per the Parliament Secretariat, Nembang's candidacy has already been registered.
