UML not to join govt until favorable situation created

Janakpurdham, Feb 14 – CPN-UML general secretary Ishwar Pokhrel has said that his party would not participate in the government until a respectable environment of partnership was forged.
Addressing a press conference organized by Press Chautari Dhanusha chapter here today, he said some misunderstanding was there between the UML and the Nepali Congress regarding the understanding in connection with allocation of important ministries including the home ministry.
The UML general secretary said there was no alternative to abiding by the earlier understanding. "The Nepali Congress should either come to a respectable political partnership or have the guts to run the government on its own," he added.
To a question, Pokhrel said party leaders Madhav Nepal and Bhim Rawal were not aware regarding the agreement on giving the Home Ministry portfolio to UML as the former was in New Delhi and the latter in Achham when the agreement was reached.
He said the UML would remain out of the government and support it on the basis of merits and demerits until the Nepali Congress created a respectable environment for partnership.
Pokhrel also said that it would be unfortunate if the Nepali Congress engaged in number game neglecting the agreement.
