TUTH OPD services shut down
Kathmandu, Feb 11 – The outpatient department (OPD) services at the Maharajgunj-based Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital have been closed. Hospital doctors and medical students halted the services, expressing solidarity to demands put forth by Prof Govinda KC who is presently on a fast-onto-death seeking implementation of an agreement reached between him and the TU executive council earlier.
Patients have been hit hard due to the closure of OPD services. An immediate appointment of capable Dean at the Institute of Medicine, establishments of government medical colleges in the rural areas, resignation of TU office-bearers and newly appointed TUTH executive director are other demands put forth by Dr KC.
The problem arose after the TU office-bearers intentionally made delay in appointing a new Dean on the basis of seniority as instructed by the government and appointed junior doctor as the hospital executive director by accepting the resignation given by Dr Bhagawan Koirala, according to Dr Rajendra Wagle.
However, emergency and inpatient department services are open, he said. Normal wound has seen on Dr Kc´s leg and until now his helaht is normal. He urged the TU executive council to address his demands without any delay.
