During the meeting, NC leaders urged UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Dahal to help the party form the next government as NC President Sushil Koirala was filing his candidacy for the post of prime minister.
It may be noted that the Legislature-parliament has already published the program for the election of the post of Prime Minister. Accordingly, nominations have to be filed by 5:00 pm today. Election will take place on Monday.
NC Vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel said discussion with the UCPN (Maoist) leaders is taking place as per the decision of the central committee to garner the support of all political parties for the formation of the government under the leadership of the NC parliamentary party leader.
"We requested for the UCPN (Maoist)´s support to our candidacy for the post of Prime Minister and they (UCPN-Maoist) said they would discuss it internally", Poudel said.
Responding to a query of whether the NC was forging an alliance with the UCPN (Maoist) to form the next government, leader Poudel said, "We have not yet decided, but we are asking for votes from everyone".
He also said that the deliberation with UML was still ongoing. "UML leaders say they are not demanding any particular ministry but also talk about a package", Poudel noted.
The NC team that called on Chairman Dahal this morning comprised NC President Koirala, Vice-president Poudel and General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitoula.
