NPU to district chapters; hold convention by February 22
Kathmandu, Feb. 3 – Nepal Press Union's central committee meeting held in the capital has directed its district and associate chapters to their conventions during the period from coming February 8-22.
Similarly, the meeting has directed the districts and associate chapters to send the name lists of renewed members to the central committee at the earliest, by February 8, stated a press release issued by NPU general secretary Shiva Lamsal.
The Union has strongly demanded the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), an umbrella organization of all working journalists of Nepal, immediately stop discrimination and irregularities while distributing its membership and abide by FNJ's constitution and September 29 decision of its central committee
In order to coordinate with FNJ's activities to this effect, the NPU has formed a taskforce headed by its senior Vice-president Badri Sigdel with Anita Bindu, Santosh Neupane, Iswori Ojha, Ajaya babu Shivakoti, Poshan KC and Jagat Nepal as members.
The democratic journalists' union has appealed to all political parties to build collaboration and consensus for the promulgation of a democratic constitution within a year in keeping with the second Constituent Assembly (CA)'s results and people's verdict.
The meeting expressed deep sorrow on the demise of former Chief Justice Biswonath Upadhyay, who significantly contributed to constitutionally address press freedom and freedom of expression and opinion, and wished for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
