TUTH docs resign en masse

Kathmandu, Jan 21 – At least 200 faculty doctors and office bearers at the Tribhuwan University Teaching Hospital have resigned en masse on Tuesday as the case of Dr Govinda KC's hunger strike and the strike by Nepal Medical Association is set to become more complicated.

The agitating doctors resigned after the Supreme Court (SC) yesterday ordered doctors to resume services in hospitals across the country within an hour of receiving the verdict.

According to sources, all three Assistant Deans of IoM and faculty doctors have tendered their resignation. Dr Bhagwan Koirala, Executive Director of the TUTH, is also known to have resigned along with other fellow doctors, however, it is yet to be confirmed.

TU executive council had recently appointed Dr Sharma as the IoM Dean after former Dean Dr Prakash Sayami tendered resignation from the top post.

NMA has been expressing solidarity towards the demands put forth by Dr KC and has halted entire services expect emergency at more than 400 hospitals, private and government, across the country since Sunday.
