SAARC commerce ministerial meet begins in new Delhi
Kathmandu, Jan 16 – The fifth meeting of the commerce ministers of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) member countries begins in New Delhi, India on Thursday.
The two-day meeting will focus on ways to bring economic prosperity to the region through a strong economy based on trade, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
A Nepali delegation led by Minister for Finance and Commerce Shanker Prasad Koirala has already reached Delhi for the meeting. The delegation comprises Commerce Secretary Madhav Prasad Regmi and Joint Secretaries Nawaraj Bhandari, Begendra Sharma Poudel and Toya Narayan Gyawali.
Commerce Ministers of Nepal, India, Afghanistan, Bhutan, the Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are taking part in the meeting. Representatives of chambers of commerce and industry of the respective country are also attending the meeting.
Meanwhile, the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi hosted on Wednesday evening a reception in honour of visiting Minister for Foreign and Home Affairs Madhav Prasad Ghimire and Finance Minister Shanker Prasad Koirala.
The members of the visiting delegation, Indian diplomats, non-resident Nepalis and embassy officials attended the reception.
