Nepse Bearish But Recovered at End
Kathmandu, Jan.5 – Nepse index reflected bearish trend during previous week. It had closed 779.50 on Sunday, 29th December (the first trading day of the week) and reached 763.47 at the close of Thursday, 2nd January 2014 (the last trading day of the week). The market floor was open for four days. The market was closed on Monday due to public holiday.

In the week, the ‘hydro-power’ sub-index dropped the highest by 82.05points closing at 1678.41 points. That was followed by the insurance sector sub-index which declined by 39.29 points.
Similarly, the banking sub-index also dropped by 19.91points closing at 769.31 points. There was no change in manufacturing and processing sub-index as well as in trading sub-index during the week.
Shares of 125 companies were traded at Nepse during the week through 11,093 transactions amounting to Rs1,450,004,000. The transaction amount is 36.17 percent lesser than that of earlier week. The total number of scrips traded was 3,599,890 which is 1,400,820 scrips less than that of earlier week.
During the week the share price of 30 companies increased, price of 82 companies declined and remaining 13 companies' shares price remained unchanged.
The best performer this week among the traded scrips was Lumbini Finance Ltd. (LFLC), closed at Rs 189, with a gain of Rs 39 or 26 percent. Whereas, Himalayan Gen. Insu. Co. Ltd. (HGI), closed at Rs 290, was the worst performer among all with a decline of Rs 397 or 57.79 percent.
NB Bank topped the list in terms of transaction amount (Rs 132,765,000). Nabil Balance Fund topped in number of scrips traded during the week. Altogether 3,92,542 units of the fundwere traded during the week.At the same time, Mega Bank was at the top on the basis of the number of transactions (948).
At the same time, 2,358,156 scrips of bonus shares and 1,012,500 scrips of right shares of Bank of Kathmandu and Life Insurance Corporation Nepal respectively were listed during the last week.
