Over 15 thousand hectares arable land remians barren in Baglung

Baglung, Jan 3 – As much as 15,674 hectares of arable land in the district remains uncultivated.
According to the statistics provided by the District Agriculture Development Office (DADO), the district annually faces shortage of some 1, 233 metric tonnes of food grains.
"Traditional farming, lack of proper training for farmers and agriculture not being the first choice of youths are the major problems faced by the district in the agriculture sector and low production. As a result, the district has to import the food grains from outer districts," said Shyam Prasad Rijal, officer at the DADO.
Out of 46,148 hectares of arable land, locals are farming only 30, 476 hectares at present due to various reasons, said the DADO sources.
