Fringe parties posing challenge to big parties in Kanchanpur
Kanchanpur, Oct. 30 – The big political parties are facing a challenge from fringe parties in all the four election constituencies in Kanchanpur district with popular support starting to sway towards the smaller parties in the run up to the November 19 Constituent Assembly election.
Big parties like the UCPN (Maoist), the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML are feeling the heat from fringe parties in course of the election campaign.
Although the competition is between the big parties in the town areas, voter support is gravitating towards the fringe parties in the rural areas of the district.
The political parties have intensified their electioneering and have increased the door-to-door visit and interactions with voters which has added to the voter enthusiasm.
But the voters largely seem undecided which party to vote. They have taken a wait and see approach until the polling day.
Like in the election to the last Constituent Assembly, all the political parties have mentioned catchy slogans in their respective election manifestos. But many voters in rural areas are in a mood to vote for the party after consultation among the villagers.
Since each village has a candidate from one or the other party, the voters in the villages are likely to vote for local candidates.
Especially the big parties are facing challenge as popular support is not seen towards any particular party as in the past. The disenchantment towards the big parties may be because they have not brought anything new in the manifestos and as most of the programs mentioned therein are a repetition from the previous manifestos.
Eighty-nine candidates, including one independent, are in the fray in all the four constituencies. The 88 candidates belong to 29 different parties. There are 198 thousand 858 voters in Kanchanpur district.
