FPAN forces for declaring national family planning day

Kathmandu, Sep 18 – The Family Planning Association of Nepal (FPAN) has urged the government to allocate 35 per cent of budget allocated for the health sector to sexual and reproductive health field.

 

A delegation from the FPAN on Wednesday called on Minister for Health and Population Bidyadhar Mallik, seeking special priority to reproductive health. They also called for announcing September 18 as the National Family Planning Day and to provide additional financial assistance to the FPAN.

 

The FPAN marks its 55th founding day today, September 18. The delegation visited the minister with a signature collection of around thirty thousand people associated with the FPAN on the same occasion.

 

The Association is working in the sector of sexual and reproductive health with its branch offices in 42 districts, eleven thousand volunteers working there.

 

The Association has fourteen thousand trained teenagers, 651 family planning clinics. 76 youth information centers, 28 family health centers and eight birthing centers.

 

The services of family planning have not been extended as per the expectations. Only 43 per cent are supposed receiving family planning services.

 

Secretary at the Ministry of Health and Population Dr Praveen Mishra assured of increasing budget allotment to the sector of reproductive health.

 

The delegation was led by FPAN Director General KP Bista. It may be noted that the association has implemented a five-year strategy aimed at assisting policies and programmes on population and reproductive health.

 

Accessible family planning, safe abortion and sexual and reproductive health for the needy are the focus of the strategy.
