students out in street against petroleum price hike

Kathmandu, Sep11 – Various student organizations including the Nepal Students Union, All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU), All Nepal National Independent Students Union (ANNISU)-Revolutionary on Wednesday jointly organized chakkajam near different campus areas in the Capital.
The student organizations organized an hour-long chakkajam from 9:00 am demanding withdrawal of price hike in petroleum products made by the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC).
Leader of the NSU, UP Lamichhane, accused the government of hiking the price of petroleum products at mid-night and demanded that the price hike should be withdrawn immediately as it hit hard the general public.
Lamichhane said that a joint meeting of student organizations has been scheduled for this afternoon to press for withdrawal of the price hike and the meeting would also release program of stern agitation.
The NOC has increased Rs 5 in per liter of petrol, Rs 3 in per liter of kerosene and diesel and Rs 7 per liter in domestic aircraft fuel.
