Nepal to meet MDGs target

Kathmandu, August 10 – Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission (NPC) Dr Rabindra Kumar Shakya has said that the aspects of social development carried out in Nepal have achieved the target of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

 

Inaugurating the fifth annual general meeting of the Nepal Bottle Water Industry Association in the capital on Saturday, Shakya claimed that 83 per cent people, against the target of 73 per cent, in the country have access to pure drinking water.

 

He said that in the sector of sanitation also nine percent more than the target has been achieved. He said 62 per cent people have the access to sanitation adding that the country could leap forward in development provided that political stability was maintained.

 

He said Rs 1600 billion would be spent in the approach paper on 13th plan and maximum investment would be made in the basic needs of the people. Shakya said access to pure drinking water would be provided to 8 per cent more people in the three-year plan.
