UNICEF launches campaign against violence against Children
Lalitpur, Aug 1: A week-long programme launched by UNICEF for ending violence against children has been formally initiated in Nepal also from Wednesday.
Around 230 million children above 18 years are being victimized from sexual harassment and around 1.2 million children are being victimized of human trafficking in the world every year, it is learnt.
Inaugurating the programme, Under-Secretary at the Children, Women and Social Welfare Ministry, Kiran Rupakheti, said that children have to tolerate more violence from their own family members and relatives.
He also urged all to be alert on time not to allow violence to occur rather than seeking justice by filing complaint.
UNICEF representative to Nepal, Hanna Singer, stressed on the need of acting promptly even as breaking the spate of violence is quite difficult, and added the campaign will be successful if bodies concerning education and health, political parties, judiciary, media government and non- government organizations, fully cooperate.
Spokesperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Gauri Pradhan said the violence against children can be controlled if government, civil society and political parties joint hands.
