Bandh hits normal life in Chitwan

Chitwan, Aug 01 – Normal life in the district has been affected since Thursday morning due to the indefinite bandh called by the Young Communist League (YCL), Chitwan, calling for withdrawing the cases against and the release of six of their cadres.
Transport services, schools and colleges and factories have remained closed due to the bandh. Although vehicles are plying in the inner parts of the town, the main road areas are deserted. The YCL cadres have assembled at different places of the town and are enforcing the bandh.
YCL Chitwan convenor Ishwor Sapkota Suman has said the bandh would not be withdrawn until their demands were met. He said the vehicles belonging to the press, ambulances, vehicles carrying tourists and vehicles of the diplomatic missions would be allowed to ply during the bandh.
The district administration has deployed police personnel in large strength to prevent any untoward incidents from taking place in course of the bandh.
Police on Tuesday evening arrested Uttam Gurung, Bharat Magar, Bishal Marahattha, Madhu Neupane, Manoj Kumar Sherpa and Rabi Parajuli of YCL on the charge of extortion at Narayangadh in Chitwan.
Some YCL cadres, who had gone to the Ward Police Office, Narayangadh, on the same evening for the release of their cadres, also manhandled two police personnel at the police office.
Police said that the YCL cadres were arrested from different places of Narayangadh while they were asking for donations for the YCL district conference.
