UDMF to move on for Nov polls

Kathmandu, July 31 – The United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) has decided to move ahead with determination to hold election to the Constituent Assembly (CA) on the stipulated date of November 19.

 

A meeting of the UDMF held at the office of the Tarai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) at Bijuli Bazaar in the capital Wednesday morning made a conclusion that the new constitution should be promulgated through CA at any cost.

 

The meeting also decided that provision of the representation of 58 per cent seats on proportional and 42 per cent on direct voting seats of the previous CA be kept intact.

 

Similarly, it decided to make provision of number of seats for the representation in CA from Madhes on the basis of percentage of population as per the constitutional provision as per the latest census.

 

The meeting also decided to request the Election Commission to extend the date for one month for updating voters´ names as many people have been still left out from registering their names in the bio-metric voters list.

 

After the meeting, Chairman of the UDMF, Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar, said that serious discussion was held being focused on the issue of making the CA election a success by holding it on the stipulated date with participation of all parties.

 

General Secretary of the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Democratic), Jitendra Dev said that five-point decision has been made by holding discussion on different issues including role to be played from the UDMF to hold CA election with the participation of most of the parties in the election.

 

Today´s meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chairman of the TMDP, Mahantha Thakur. The next meeting of UDMF has been scheduled for August 11, he added.

 

The Tarai Madhes Democratic Party, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Democratic), Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Republic), Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party-Nepal and Sadbhawana Party are associated with the UDMF.
