Gyanendra sepnds over Rs 13m to flood victims

Dhangadi, July 26 – Expenses of the family of former king Gyanendra Shah—who has arrived with food and relief materials worth Rs 3.90 million to distribute to the flood victims in Far West–staffers of Himani Trust and security personnel has crossed at least three times the value of materials he is distributing.

Over 90 associates and security persons, who have come to assist in distribution of relief materials, are staying at the three-star Rubas Hotel in Nepalgunj along with the former Royal family. Eleven members of Shah family are here from July 20 and 21. The team that is here on a 13-day schedule was seen in distribution of relief materials for two days and has been busy in visiting tourist areas and religious sites. They will return back to Kathmandu on July 28.  

Gyanendra his wife Komal, daughter Prerana and grandson, daughter-in-law Himani, grandson Hridayendra, granddaughetr Poornika and Kritika, daughter of former prince Dhirendra—Dilasha and Sitashma and the latter’s daughter Arsiya are all here. Chief of the trust Himani and her daughters had arrived on Sunday while all the others had reached here Monday on a regular Buddha Air flight. Over 90 staffers and security persons have also arrived here. More than 40 policemen led by a DSP have arrived from Kathmandu on July 16 to make security arrangements while another 50 including Gyanendra’s personal associates and trusts staffers came on July 19. The whole hotel has been booked for them and entry of others has been banned. The hotel has rooms that cost from Rs 1,000 to Rs 10,000 per night. Those who could not be accomodated in the hotel are staying at other luxury hotels in Dhangadi. Twenty-five small-big vehicles brought from Kathmandu are being used during the visit while a helicopter was used for three days.

Gyanendra’s personal secretary Dr Fani Raj Pathak revealed that Gyanedra contributed Rs 2.50 million while the general public collected Rs 1.40 million for providing relief materials. Family members of former king distributed relief materials in Darchula on Wednesday while they are scheduled to distribute them in Kanchanpur and Tikapur on Friday. The team is scheduled to visit Karnali bridge, Bardiya National Park, Thakurdwara, Ghodaghodi Lake, Tikapur Park and other places. Clothes, food materials and medicines are being distributed by the trust. Relief materials were sent to Darchula via India as the road in Nepal has been obstructed due to floods.
