Landslide victims shut down Nuwakot for indefinite period

Nuwakot, July 24 – Locals of Kistang VDC have closed Nuwakot district for an indefinite period from on Wednesday saying the government did not listen to their demands. The VDC is at high risk of landslides.

Sanjay Bahadur Tamang, coordinator of the group which is active for the rehabilitation of those affected from the landslides, said that they were compelled to call a shut down of the district as their problems were not taken seriously even after they informed it to various heads government to the then King time and again.

Short and long route traffic has been completely halted in Nuwakot district from this morning due to the banda. General public have been hit hard due to obstruction of the public vehicles.

Rasuwa district has also been affected from Nuwakot banda. Long-route vehicles could not be operated in the district as well.

Earlier too, landslide victims of Kistang had on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to Chairman of the Interim Election Council through the District Administration Office, Nuwakot.

Hundreds of families have been displaced and now hundreds of households are affected by the landslides since 2028 BS.They complained that the state has been neglecting their demands of rehabilitation for long.

Now, Kistang has 600 households where 418 households are at high risk of landslides.

The government had made preparations for rehabilitation of Kistang landslide victims at Khampa Camp at Bidur Municipality-6, but it had backtracked after locals protested by closing the district one month ago. The state has not yet given an alternative to Khampa Camp for landslide victims.
