Minister seeks 50 bln budget in agriculture

Kathmandu, July 22 – Minister for Agriculture Development Tek Bahadur Gharti has charged the government of failing to allocate enough budget in agriculture sector where, according to him, two third of the population is involved.
Talking to reporters at Reporters Club here on Monday, Minister Gharti stressed on the need to allocate at least Rs 50 billion in agriculture sector as estimated by the Agriculture Development strategy.
He expressed his worries that the agriculture sector cannot meet the progress as expected as due to failing to allocate needful budget.
He asked the government to increase budget in agriculture sector so as to make this sector independent However, he claimed that agriculture sector can be independent if the new government programmes relating to it are implemented.
