Budget preparation at final stage: FM koirala

Kathmadnu, July 8 – Minister for Finance, Shankar Koirala, has said that preparation of the budget for the coming Fiscal Year 2013/14 has reached the final stage.

Inaugurating a two-day training organised by the Society of Economic Journalists of Nepal (SEJON) here on Monday, Minister Koirala said that the government would bring a budget to help run the country for one year.

Arguing that the budget to be tabled by the incumbent government would not invite many controversies as it would be focused on development, he said the budget would just help to keep the national economy running.

The Finance Minister said that the budget would come considering the upcoming election to the Constituent Assembly (CA) scheduled for November 19 and would help accelerate the economy.

Stating that preparation is underway to develop a budget for the next fiscal year that is acceptable to the new elected government, he expressed the belief that there would not be criticism of the upcoming budget as much as of the previous one.

Finance Minister Koirala said that the Finance Ministry was ready to provide institutional support to enhancing the capacity of journalists and suggested the SEJON to move ahead with programmes of professional capacity building.

On the occasion, SEJON Chairman, Pradeep Chaulagain, said that SEJON has been sharing diverse views to create favourable industrial environment in the country.

He said there was no alternative to bringing a full-fledged budget on time considering the demand for investment-friendly environment by the private sector.

Vice-Chair of SEJON, Gokarna Awasthi, said the training with the support of the Finance Ministry is for the capacity building of aspiring journalists, who want to write in the economic sector.
