JICA provides chemical fertiliser worth Rs 259 m

Kathmandu, July 3 – Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Wednesday handed over fertiliser (Urea 3,105.10 metric tons and DAP 1,343.10 metric tons) worth around Rs 259.00 million to the Government of Nepal under the Grant Assistance for Underprivileged Farmers (2KR).

Chief Representative of JICA Nepal Tsutomu Shimizu handed over the fertiliser to Joint Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture Development (MoAD) Uttam Bhattarai amid a function held at the Agriculture Inputs Company Limited (AICL), Kathmandu.

Present on the occasion were MoAD Joint Secretary Ram Prasad Pulami, Minister Counselor of the Embassy of Japan Shuichi Sakakibara, Nepal government officials and representatives from the Embassy of Japan.

The fertiliser under 2KR is also used as a buffer stock to stabilise rising prices in times of crisis, a statement issued by JICA said, adding that sales proceeds from the fertiliser supplied under 2KR are deposited under the government’s Counterpart Fund, which is channeled into socio-economic development projects.
