Govt announces Rs 35‚000 to Darchula flood victims

Kathmandu, June 20 – The government is to allocate Rs. 500 million for the reconstruction of physical infrastructure including roads, and drinking water projects, which were destroyed by floods in Darchula district.

The floods in Mahakali river due to incessant rainfall from mid-June had swept away many houses of general public including 13 government offices at the district headquarters, Khalanga. The floods also directly affected more than 300 families.

The government has decided to provide Rs. 35,000 as a relief to the each displaced family for the time being. Different relief materials including food, clothes and medicines would also be provided to them.

The District Natural Disaster Relief Committee in the presence of political parties would distribute the relief materials including the amount to the flood victims.

Chairman of the Interim Election Council, Khil Raj regmi, informed this while inspecting the flood affected areas in Darchula today.

Chairman Regmi also directed to resume the government services soon by reinstating those government offices, which were destroyed and swept away by the floods, said Regmi's Press Coordinator, Rajendra Pandey.

Regmi also directed the bodies concerned not to allow the shortage of essentials including food and medicines, and to open the obstructed roads as well as to start construction works of embankments.

A high-level team led by Chairman Regmi arrived in Darchula today for the on-site visit of the flood affected areas.

Regional Administrator Atmaram Pandey and Chief District Officer Chiranjivi Sharma familiarised the team about the losses caused by the floods.

Meanwhile, the high-level team had returned to Capital after inspection of flood-hit western districts.
